The chuckwagon drivers in this drawing are well known in the chuckwagon circles of Alberta. Pencil artist, Bernie Brown was commissioned by Buddy Bensmiller's wife, Darlene, to do this picture which features her husband and three other legends of the the great sport of chuckwagon racing.Buddy is the only surviving member of this memorable group of drivers.(L-R)George Normand (1956-1994), Buddy Bensmiller, Dallas Dorchester (1946-2008), Richard Cosgrave (1956-1993)This race occurred in 1989 at the Calgary Stampede.
In 1993 Richard Cosgrave was killed in a tragic chuckwagon racing accident at the Kamloops Rodeo and less than a year later, George Normand lost his life at the Ponoka Stampede competing in this sport, now referred to as THE HALF MILE OF HELL. Dallas Dorchester passed away from cancer in 2008.
